Wow just read this over on the Guardian’s website its from yesterday
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/feb/12/piracy.politics
Interesting to see if it goes ahead
Internet users who illegally download music and films could lose their access to the web under legislation aimed at cracking down on those who flout piracy laws. Powers being drafted by the government will compel internet service providers to take action against customers who access pirated material.

They haven’t tried to do it in Ireland YET, but they probably will at some point … I’ve already spoken to journalists about it
Well as I see it its only a matter of time. Laws in Ireland / UK are very similar and with BT being a pretty big player in the UK market I’d assume this would have some sort of impact on the irish users as well ?
I’m on the fence if this is a good thing or bad thing. Its probably a better idea than taking some teenager to court and suing for thousands that his/her family cant even afford.
I don’t like the fact of an ISP sharing data though, thats when privacy of all users can go out the window. Lets hope that ISP’s stay the same, not having a clue about their current setups.
There was a post over on http://forums.films.ie/general-chat/437-copyright-isps.html about it as well … my semi views are there … its a weird one.
