OSX update + MAMP update = oh ****

Well late last night I heard about the 10.5.5 update of OSX and decided what the hell I’ll go and update.
It all went smoothly enough I thought. Today / this morning I noticed MAMP had stopped working. I went oh bugger made a post or two about it and checked the MAMP site noticing that I was at 1.7.1 and the latest is at 1.7.2 so I went to update.
Downloaded … the image loads and I see the nice little interface for copying the MAMP folder over into my Apps folder. Now I assumed I was gonna lose a small few configs in my httpd.conf file .. nothing I couldn’t just rewrite in a minute or two. So I went ahead and copied in it.
Now to my complete horror … it has overwritten everything including the folders and as such removed the original content. This day has just gotten very bad as I’ve lost a few databases I had not backed up. I’ve all the htdocs files backed up … just not the cgi-bin or the mysql folder.
*sighs* Every few months one does something really really stupid. This was my stupid action hopefully for another while at least.
I just had a power nap with the cat for 10 minutes and I must admit I’ve woken up feeling a lot better. Its not the end of the world. Its just the start of a REALLY stressful week I’m afraid to say.
If I’d bothered to read the readme file I would of course have seen the big red notice in it … oh bother said pooh … christopher robin is not going to like this one bit.
Done anything stupid recently ? Care to share and make me feel better ?

Hi James,
You’re not the only one who has done that — I’m really sorry to hear that it happened to you (I didn’t lose data when it happened to me but I wasn’t expecting it). Nowadays, I keep the web files out of MAMP so I can delete it without worry.
I hope you didn’t lose too much. Bon chance!
Hey Aral … well I just had what I would almost consider 2 of the worst months … long days .. short nights … and a whole little viscous circle of getting sick as a result. There is light at the end of the tunnel though .. I just hope its not a train
welcome to my hidious little site as well
