A few weeks ago I moved over to using Pidgin (used to be called gaim) http://www.pidgin.im

I just saw today that they’ve released 2.1.1 … it hasn’t crashed on me yet (today) but I’m not holding my breath I’ve had problems with the previous incarnation of Pidgin … gaim and could never get it to run nicely on a windows XP machine which was one of the reasons I didn’t consistantly use it. Still if you’re looking to replace all the chat clients you use … msn / yahoo / googletalk / AIM /ICQ / IRC / Jabber and have it all handled by the one application then I think this is one of the best products currently out there. Its cross platform compatible as well and whats more you can even install it onto a USB key so you can bring it with you if you want when you’re on the go without a laptop.

I’ve now got it logged into my googletalk / aim / 2 msn accounts and my yahoo account … now if only skype would open up their messaging system I could do away with the skype client for the most part
